One day in June, I was walking down the street in San Diego. I saw many homeless people sleeping in rags. Some of them didn’t even have blankets on. I was immediately concerned about their conditions.
As a high school students, I realized what I could do was quite limited. To help them at my best, I realized that I could donate some basic necessities such as blankets and clothes together with our non-profit organization, the Bamboo Club.
I searched online and came across another non-profit group called Alpha Project.
This group is dedicated to help the homeless people in San Diego by providing them food and shelters. I was profoundly hooked and soon contacted Alpha Project. After they provided me an address for donation, I started to collect stuff. To help as many people as possible, I even reached out to my friends to see if they had something to donate. The next day, we left for the address early in the morning with three big bags full of blankets, sheets, clothes, and shoes. When we arrived there, I saw a huge field with a warehouse and tents that served as shelters for the homeless people. We met with the coordinator of Alpha Project. He thankfully accepted our donation and told me that they were helping thousands of people everyday in San Diego. He really appreciated our donation. The donations in the bags were soon distributed.
Seeing the smiles on the homeless people’s faces when they received the donations, I was really satisfied. I’m happy that Bamboo club and I could contribute to the society by helping the disadvantaged. By bring happiness to others by our small acts of kindness, the bamboo club helps us fulfill our civil responsibilities.
